BENEFITS OF AN EPOXY FLOOR
Lets start by letting everyone know that is epoxy floor coating is not a paint. It is not latex or acrylic based. This may be confusing, because there are some paints out there that have a small amount of epoxy mixed into it, to make it more durable. Please keep in mind that these are labeled epoxy paints. They are typically a one part product that as long as the can is sealed they will not dry out.
Epoxy is an actual thermosetting resin that is applied as a coating. It is formed when you mix one part epoxide resin with one part polyamine hardener. The hardener acts as a catalyst and is what gives epoxy its strength. This means that there is a chemical reaction taking place.
Unlike paint that has to dry, epoxy cures. When the two parts are mixed, it creates an exothermic curing process. This curing process produces polymer structures that are closely cross-linked, giving epoxy its superior strength and durability. The end result is a coating that is much thicker than paint and bonds very well to a properly prepared surface.
So when hiring an installer to do your epoxy floor, make sure that they understand these differences. Make sure that when they are applying your epoxy floor that they do not "thin" out the material. As this will make your floor not have the same wear and durability.
The professional installers at SLEEK SURFACES want to give you the last epoxy floor that you will buy!
